The Russian Ministry of Defense reported a fire on the Moskva missile cruiser and an explosion of ammunition that occurred as a result of the fire. Earlier, Ukrainian sources announced about its shelling with cruise missiles.

"The ship was seriously damaged, the crew was completely evacuated. The causes of the fire are being established," RIA Novosti writes with reference to the Defense Ministry.

"Moskva" is the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Navy and the ship with the most powerful weapons in the Black Sea Fleet.

Earlier Wednesday, the head of the Odessa regional administration, Colonel Maxim Marchenko, said that the Ukrainian military had hit the Russian missile cruiser Moskva with Neptune anti-ship cruise missiles and caused him serious damage.

“He went exactly where our border guards sent him on Zmeiny Island!” Marchenko wrote.

These words are a reference to the capture of Snake Island. According to the Ukrainian authorities, it was the Moskva that was the Russian warship that the Ukrainian defenders of the island obscenely suggested to get out of the way.

Information about the incident on the cruiser Moskva was indirectly confirmed by Aleksey Arestovich, adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

“Two sailors smoked in the wrong place, or once again violated some security measures, well, somehow they’re out of luck,” Arestovich commented on this fire sarcastically. “Like Belgorod was unlucky, so was Moscow.

Arestovich was referring to the explosions at the oil depot in Belgorod, the cause of which the Russian authorities called the strikes of Ukrainian helicopters. Ukraine has not officially confirmed that these were the actions of its armed forces.
